Here comes 2014! What do you want in the New Year?

Here comes 2014 and before we know it we are starting a new year. What will this one bring us? Interacting with many people on a daily basis, I get to hear a lot about what the hopes and dreams of others are. I have many of my own. As I sit down to write this while having a glass of wine, I, like many others have gone through life changing experiences in this last year. I found out things about my family I never knew and discovered a past I never knew I had. There is a good chance I have relatives I have never met. My company is changing and getting ready to add new services and expand into new territories. I find myself with responsibilities and challenges I would not see so soon and at the same time I also find myself with a significant love interest I could spend the rest of my life with when I was not even looking. Like many others, my plate is full and somewhat empty at the same time. This Nation has been through remarkable changes and like many of us, is going through growing pains and leaving us with emotions and feelings beyond our control.

Here comes 2014. Many of us looking beyond this Christmas season forget that many are not so fortunate. I am not going to go into another rant about poverty. This topic will get a lot of airtime and although it deserves coverage, there is a lot unseen that affects us greatly that goes beyond poverty which is an equal opportunity disease. I am talking about the direction into which we follow our own moral compass, that inner voice and guide that tells us which way to go and what the outcome will be. While many of us ponder what is in those boxes under the tree and we try to forget the terrible things happening around us, there is some hope for us after all. At Moe’s Barber shop in Harlem, some extraordinary events took place! Click on the hot link and you will find out there could be hope for us yet. This makes the section I am about to link to much easier to tolerate! The Center for Western Journalism posted a think tank report from George Soros calling Christian Privilege despicable because so many who call themselves Christians are actually intolerant bigots. That was bad enough, but then a bunch of intolerant Bigots who call themselves Christians showed up in the comment section and did their best to prove him right! Here is the Facebook page.  As a Gay Christian man of faith, I, like many others are embarrassed again from some who call themselves Christians!

My hope for the New Year is that Hate, Ignorance, Bigotry, Intolerance and fear will continue to die off and that one day we may get to the point where, guess what? A Gay congressman who can balance a checkbook, means what he or she says and is as worried about the Constitution as the rest of us, will run for the people, against a Democrat panderer and against this losing brand of social conservative Republicanism as an American!

Now I know I may be a bit idealistic here, but I am an optimist by nature and an Aries by Star sign, so I guess you can say it is a condition I was born with such as being Gay. I would like to think that 2014 would be a great time to open a new business or expand a current one into new territory. I would like to think that 2014 will be a time where the people of the country will try to be more self sufficient. I would like to think that 2014 will be a time when Countries like Russia, Uganda, Cameroon, Serbia and others will not cater to hate and ignorance! I would like to see the same hate, ignorance and Bigotry end in the USA as well.

Here comes 2014. Put the Christ back in Christmas? Yes! But let us put the Christ back into Christians! Let us hope 2014 is a lot better than the last few years have been.
